“The Big Draw”

During October 2004, the Museum took part in the nation wide event “The Big Draw”. The Shell Grotto in Pontypool Park, along with the Museum, was used as a venue to invite school parties and members of the public to draw away to their heart’s content.Grotto outside view

Casual visitors who took part, although protesting their lack of artistic knowledge, were pleasantly surprised at the results of their handiwork. It is hoped that a repeat of this event will take place in 2005 and that the Grange, along with the Museum, will also be able to offer the use of their facilities.

They were totally absorbed, producing some excellant work, demonstrating the wealth of talent available on our own doorstep. With one of our local artists in attendance offering free advice and information, some casual visitors who faced the difficult walk to the Grotto, also benefited from his services and were amazed at the beauty of the interior. They consequently also drew some pictures to be proud of, promising a return visit on the next opportunity. If you would like a visit to the Grotto yourself, you can obtain a summer season timetable from the museum or ring for details.
