National Play Day The Museum hosted National Play Day for the first
time on 4 August 2004, which proved to be a great success. Over 300 children
and 100 adults flocked through the museum's doors to join in the fun.
Activities ranged from giant board games, like Draughts, Connect Four and Ludo, to craft activities such as mask making and giant cardboard cars. An afternoon session of belly dancing also proved extremely popular with the girls. More laid back activities, such as the museum's
own Japanware art sessions, were also well attended. Perhaps the children
needed a rest from the other games. Adults too, found the art work relaxing
and interesting.
The Grange was only able to assist with the provision of expert advice, their galleries and workspace being fully occupied during this time. However, the Museum was able to use their premises to provide the play activities such as the giant board games and Japanware sessions, with over 300 children and 100 adults coming through the doors. Other events took place in Blaenavon, Trevethin, and Cwmbran, reaching over 1000 children throughout Torfaen. We are certain that this year's Play Day, 3 August 2005, will be even better.
